Fx Photo Studio Pro For Mac Review

FX Photo Studio Pro packs quite a punch for a Mac photography app.

In addition to a stunning collection of more than 170 photo effects (such as Vintage, Dramatic B&W, Analog, Grunge, Sketches, 3-D, Color Splash and more), it comes with dozens of photo frames and borders, plus a bunch of pro editing tools and color controls.

FX Photo Studio Pro also plays nice with Adobe’s Lightroom/Photoshop and Apple’s Aperture/iPhoto, supports iCloud syncing, shares via popular social networks and more.

Here, check out the screenies.

You have 173 effects and 40 photo borders at your disposal, each with detailed customization options. And if that’s not enough for you, FX Photo Studio Pro lets you layer and combine effects to create your own mixes of effects. You can save these to presets and share them with other photographers around.

A great-looking interface (completely customizable, too) lets you preview effects, compare original and resulting images and label favorites. Some of the 173 effects include Lo-Fi, Grunge, Art, Vintage, Vignettes, Sketches, Hollywood FX, Cross Process, Glow and Black & White.

Just like Photoshop, FX Photo Studio Pro features masking and color splash tools so you can apply effects and colors to an arbitrary shape. A number of pro-grade editing tools allow for finely tuned touch ups, such as exposure, brightness, saturation, contrast, temperature and hues.

You can also adjust levels, shadows and highlights, sharpen your images or reduce noise. Images can be imported from Aperture or iPhoto library, folders or digital cameras and exported to iPhoto, Lightroom, Aperture or Photoshop, with sharing choices including Facebook, Tumblr, Flickr and Twitter.

All told, FX Photo Studio Pro is an all-around fine app. In my personal opinion, it’s a must-have in every photography fan’s collection.

I reviewed the initial 1.0 release in May 2011 over at 9to5Mac and you may also want to visit MacPhun’s website to learn more about FX Photo Studio Pro and other fine apps they’re making.

We’re giving away a non-App Store download, which isn’t different from the Mac App Store one. You will be able to get free updates by clicking on ‘Check For Updates’ option in the menu.

To enter the giveaway, simply post something down in the comments. Please do not forget to include your Twitter handle so we could contact you with download instructions in case you won.
